Haji Noor Deen Mi Guang Jiang is a renowned master of Arabic calligraphy. Born in 1963 in Shangdong province, China, he brings an immense learning in traditional thought and Islamic art to a modern audience, juxtaposing them in a new calligraphic style all his own, both Eastern and Western.

Unique Fusion of Eastern and Western Calligraphy

The Chinese and Arabic calligraphic traditions have often been compared as the two of the world's finest manifestations of the written word. When combined the result is an artistic piece that is a work of incredibly unique beauty.

Noor Deen's mastery has brought him lecture and workshop invitations from institutions around the world, including: Harvard University, Cambridge University, UC Berkeley, MIT, the Bukhari Institute, Islamic College in Zhengzhou, China, the Zaytuna Institute in California, and many others.

Currently, Noor Deen is developing his own gallery, "The Chinese House for the Arts of Islamic Arabic Calligraphy" and the "Arabic Calligraphy Creative Centre", at the National Academy of Painting and Calligraphy in Henan Province, China.

Biography

 

1963

Haji Noor Deen Mi Guang Jiang is a renowned master of Arabic calligraphy. He was born in 1963, in Yucheng, Shandong Province in China.



1997

Haji Noor Deen Graduated from Egypt Sadate( السادات ) Calligraphy School on May 1997. He was awarded the Certificate of Arabic Calligrapher in Egypt, becoming the first Chinese person to be honored with this prestigious award.


1999

Honour awarded by the Director of Egypt Calligraphy Association on April 26, 1999. Then, He was accepted by Egypt Calligraphy Association as a membership on June 14, 1999.


2000

Noor Deen initiated & taught the first regular and systemic Arabic Calligraphy course at the Zhengzhou Islamic College in China.


2005

In 2005, a piece named " The Ninety-Nine Names of God" was acquired by The British Museum to be displayed in their gallery of Islamic Art.


2009 - 2020

Haji Noor Deen was included in the list of “Top 500 Most Influential Muslims of 2009 to 2020 in the world" by Georgetown University, USA.


2016

On 11 October, 2016, Professor Haji Noor Deen was awarded the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre 2016 Islamic Economy Award in the category of Islamic Arts.


2017

In 2017 Haji Noor Deen was honored with an Arabic Calligraphy Certificate, called Ijaza, by Master Calligraphers, Hasan Celebi Hoca, Dawood Bektash, Farhad Kurlu and Ahmed Kocak Hoca in Istanbul, Turkey. He was the first Chinese Calligrapher to be honored by the Ottoman Calligraphy School.

Haji Noor Deen brings Islamic art and traditional thought to a modern audience.


His work has been displayed often as the first Chinese/Arabic artist, and has been acquired for the permanent collections, such as The British Museum, San Francisco Asian Museum, National Museum of Scotland and Harvard University Art Museum.

He has exhibited his work in more than 20 countries, including U.S.A., UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, Singapore, and UAE.

Haji Noor Deen has spent most of his time educating students in Arabic calligraphy and many of his students have become successful calligraphers. In his lifetime, he has written books about Chinese and Arabic calligraphy art and tradition.

He is currently concentrating on research of manuscripts of the Qur’an and Arabic calligraphy theory. The focus of his work is a masterful calligraphic technique which uniquely fuses both the Chinese and Arabic arts.

Haji Noor Deen is available for workshops, lectures, art shows and exhibitions.
